Biography

The Hon. Brandy Mueller is a judge for the 403rd District Court in Travis County, Texas. She was elected to the bench on November 8, 2022.

Prior to her election, Mueller was a judge for the Travis County Court at Law No. 6, a position to which she was named in 2010. In that capacity, she created and implemented Project Engage, a diversion program for young adult defendants.

Mueller earned a J.D. from Western New England University School of Law. She was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1996.

After graduating from law school, Mueller spent time as an assistant district attorney for the Travis County District Attorney’s Office as well as an assistant county attorney for the Travis County Attorney’s Office. She also worked as a criminal defense attorney in private practice, supplementing her practice with service as a special assistant United States attorney at the Office of the United States Attorney for the Western District of Texas.

Her memberships have included the Austin Bar Association, the Robert Calvert American Inn of Court, and the National Association of Women Judges. She has also been involved with the Austin State Supported Living Center, Back on My Feet, the Travis County Dispute Resolution Center, the Lola Wright Foundation, the CAN Academy, and the American Youth Works-AmeriCorps.

She is a recipient of the Civic Futures Award from the City of Austin and the Judicial Excellence in Criminal Law Award from the Austin Bar Association (2019).

Born and raised in Austin, Texas, Mueller and her husband, Aaron, have three sons, a dog, and a brood of chickens.
