Judge Brandon J. Young - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Brandon J. Young is a judge for the 14th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Ron DeSantis in 2021, filling the vacancy created by the Florida Legislature.

The 14th Judicial Circuit includes Bay, Calhoun, Gulf, Holmes, Jackson, and Washington Counties. Young has held an assignment in Calhoun County.

Prior to his appointment, he was the chief assistant state attorney with the Office of the State Attorney for the 14th Judicial Circuit in Holmes County, having held the position since 2009. Young previously served as a prosecutor there for two years beginning in 2002 and then worked for the office part-time beginning in 2006 before returning to full-time in 2009.

In addition to his work as a prosecutor, he served as general counsel for the Holmes County Board of County Commissioners (2017 to 2021). Young was in private practice in between his stints with the State Attorney’s Office.

He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of West Florida. Young went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Florida, Fredric G. Levin College of Law, in 2001. He was admitted to practice in Florida in 2002.

At the time of his appointment, Young resided in Bonifay, Florida.
