Biography

The Hon. Beverly Singleman (Ret.) served as a judge for the Doña Ana County Magistrate Court in New Mexico. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Susana Martinez in 2012, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Olivia Nevarez Garcia.


Prior to her appointment, Singleman worked as an attorney in private practice, specializing in water law, probate law, and labor law matters at Hubert & Hernandez in Las Cruces. The firm, which handles cases in New Mexico, Arizona, Washington, Idaho, and Nebraska, has been involved in precedent-setting cases involving water, natural resources, and public land law. Singleman also supplemented her practice with a stint as a judge for the New Mexico Court of Appeals (2000).


Singleman earned a bachelor’s degree in social work from the University of Iowa. She then completed a J.D. at the University of Arizona, James E. Rogers College of Law. As a law student, Singleman sat as editor of the Arizona Law Review (1975 to 1976).


She is admitted to practice in Arizona (1976) and New Mexico (1981). She is also certified as a recognized specialist in appellate practice by the New Mexico Board of Legal Specialization, and she is admitted to appear before the United States District Court for the District of New Mexico and the District of Arizona as well as the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth and Tenth Circuits.


Her memberships have included the National Association of School Board Attorneys.


Singleman was born in Iowa City, Iowa.


She is registered as a Democrat.
