The Hon. Bernie C. LaForteza is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench in 2008 by former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. He filled the vacancy created by the death of the Hon. David Mintz (deceased).
Judge LaForteza is a registered Republican.
He received his B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles. He went on to earn his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.
LaForteza practiced as a named partner at the law firm of Daza, Eto, Hwu, and LaForteza after graduating from law school. Then, in 1993, he became a program manager for his alma mater, UCLA's Alumni Association.
In 1995, LaForteza joined the Los Angeles County Public Defender's Office as a deputy public defender. He then joined the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office in 2005 as a deputy district attorney. He remained in that position until his appointment to the Superior Court in 2008.
LaForteza also served as an officer in the U.S. Army Reserve's Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps starting in 1997.
