Judge Beatrice J. Brickhouse: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Beatrice J. Brickhouse is a judge for the 2nd Judicial District Court of New Mexico in Bernalillo County. She was appointed to the bench in January 2009.

During her judicial tenure, her caseload has included personal injury, employment, breach of contract, civil rights, probate and guardianship, and business disputes. Brickhouse also served as Presiding Judge of the Civil Division.

Prior to her appointment, she was an assistant city attorney for the City of Albuquerque, having served in that capacity since 2002. Before that, Brickhouse spent time as a DWI Hearing Officer (1999 to 2002), a private practice attorney (1996 to 1999), and an assistant district attorney (1993 to 1996).

She received a bachelor’s degree from Western Illinois University in 1984. Brickhouse went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Arizona, James E. Rogers College of Law in 1992. She was admitted to practice in New Mexico (1993) and the United States District Court for the District of New Mexico (1997).

Her memberships have included the State Bar of New Mexico, the Albuquerque Bar Association, the New Mexico Black Lawyers Association, the National Association of Women Judges (New Mexico chair), and the Lincoln County Bar Association (past president). Brickhouse also served as a member of the New Mexico Board of Bar Examiners Board and a Bar Commissioner for the State Bar of New Mexico.

Brickhouse is a married mother of two children and resides in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She is a veteran of the United States Army.
