Biography

Hon. Barry L. Breslow is a judge for the Second Judicial District Court in Washoe County, Nevada. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Brian Sandoval in 2017 and subsequently retained in 2018 and 2020. He filled the vacancy created by the elevation of the Hon. Lidia Stiglich to the Nevada Supreme Court.

Breslow received a B.A. in political science from Rutgers University in 1984. He went on to earn a J.D. from The Ohio State University, Moritz College of Law in 1987.

He served as a law clerk to the Hon. Howard D. McKibben with the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada for one year beginning in 1987.

After completing his clerkship, Breslow joined the law firm of Robinson, Belaustegui, Sharp, & Low. During his tenure in private practice, he served as an arbitrator, mediator, and facilitator. He was an arbitrator for the Nevada Supreme Court-annexed arbitration program as well as in both Washoe and Clark Counties.

Breslow also served as a judge pro tem with the Reno Municipal Court, where he presided over criminal matters.

In addition to his private practice work, he provided pro bono legal services to the underserved.

While on the bench, Breslow has presided over civil and criminal matters of general jurisdiction. In addition to these responsibilities, he has assisted with probate matters on an as-needed basis, served as the presiding judge for the Second Judicial District’s Mental Health Court, and as the Alternate Structured Settlement Judge.

His memberships have included the Washoe County Bar Association, the State Bar of Nevada, the Bruce R. Thompson Inns of Court, the State Bar Disciplinary Panel, and the Northern Nevada Chapter of the Association of Defense Counsel.

In 2012, Breslow was appointed by then-Governor Sandoval to the Commission on Common Interest Communities and Condominium Hotels.

He is a long-time resident of Nevada. Breslow is married and has two children. His hobbies include reading, playing the piano, and spending time outdoors.
