The Hon. Barbara J. Stalder is a judge of the Two Hundred Eightieth Family Court in Harris County, Texas. She took office on January 1, 2019, and her current term ends in 2022. In 2014, she was a Democratic candidate for the 280th.
Stalder earned her undergraduate degree from University of Houston and her law degree from University of Houston Law Center.
Stalder started working in El Paso as a court-appointed special advocate. After graduation she received a fellowship with the non-profit organization Equal Justice Works. Then she worked for Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse. Stalder also taught at the University of Houston Law Center and worked as a supervising attorney in the civil clinic with victims of domestic violence. She is Board Certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
Born in Kansas City, she currently lives in Houston. She is married and has six "fur-ever" kids. Her and her spouse have been married for over 20 years. In 1989, Stalder fled an eleven-year abusive relationship.
In her spare time on the weekends, Stalder works with one of Houstons animal rescue projects. She is a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans.
Stalder is a Democrat.
