Biography

The Hon. B. Scott Silverman is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2008.

Judge Silverman graduated with honors with his B.A. in history from Stanford University in 1971. He went on to earn his J.D. from the University of California Hastings College of the Law in 1975. He graduated from law school number one in his class. During law school, he was a member of the Thurston Honor Society.

After graduating from law school, he clerked for Associate Justice Ramond L. Sulivan with the California Supreme Court from 1975-1977. After his clerkship, Judge Silverman joined the law firm of Morrison and Foerster, LLP in their San Francisco office as an associate in that same year. In 1985 he was named a partner for the firm and moved to their Los Angeles office. He remained with the firm until 2007 when he was appointed to the Los Angeles Superior Court as a court commissioner.

During his time on the bench, Judge Silverman has served on several committees that have included the Los Angeles County Superior Court Access & Fairness Committee, and the Los Angeles County Superior Court Community Outreach Committee.

Judge Silverman, a native Californian, is an avid lecturer and accomplished writer. He is the recipient of the Racial Justice Award from the ACLU of Southern California for his work involving a workplace discrimination lawsuit.

He enjoys reading and playing golf.
