The Hon. Ashfaq G. Chowdhury is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench in 2018 by former Governor Jerry Brown. He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Lloyd M. Nash (Ret.).
He is a registered Democrat.
Judge Chowdhury received his B.A. from Williams College. He went on to earn his J.D. from Columbia Law School.
Chowdhury clerked for the Hon. Richard N. Palmer with the Connecticut Supreme Court from 2000 to 2001 and for the Hon. Frederic Block with the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York from 2001 to 2003. For the next seven years Chowdhury would serve as an associate for the law firms of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton, and Garrison LLP from 2003 to 2005, Munger, Tolles, and Olson LLP from 2005 to 2008, and Cole Pedroza LLP from 2008 to 2010.
He would then leave the private arena in 2010 to become a deputy federal public defender at the Office of the Federal Public Defender for the Central District of California. He held that position until his appointment to the Superior Court in 2018.
