Judge Arthur Bergman - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Arthur Bergman (Ret.) was a judge for the Vicinage 8 Superior Court in Middlesex County in New Jersey. He was appointed to the bench in 2006 and was reappointed for tenure in 2013. Bergman retired in 2020.

While on the bench, he held assignments in the Civil Division (2006, 2010 to 2017), Family Division (2006 to 2010), and General Equity Division (2017 to 2020) in Middlesex County.

Bergman received a bachelor’s degree from Brooklyn College. He went on to complete a J.D. at William & Mary Law School in 1975.

Prior to joining the bench, Bergman was a partner at Sokol, Behot & Fiorenzo, where he represented major national engineering and architectural companies and large private sector companies for environmental and construction projects. He joined the firm in 1992.

Before that, Bergman worked for twelve years as general counsel at CBA Engineering (1979 to 1992) and was a former assistant city attorney for the City of Virginia Beach in Virginia (1974 to 1979).

At the time of his retirement, Bergman was facing potential discipline by the Supreme Court of New Jersey Advisory Committee on Judicial Conduct over allegations that he violated judiciary rules while presiding over a dispute regarding an estate trust case.
