Judge Anthony J. Ferrentino - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Anthony J. Ferrentino is a judge for the Orange County Superior Court in California. He was elected to the bench on March 3, 2020.

As the sole candidate on the ballot, Ferrentino won the election in the primary with no general election being held.

On the bench, he has held an assignment on the Family Law Panel.

Prior to his election, Ferrentino was an assistant district attorney with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, where he had held an assignment on the management team since 2011. Ferrentino also managed grant funds and prosecuted workers’ compensation, disability, healthcare, and automobile fraud as head of the Insurance Fraud Unit (2014 to 2018). He first joined the District Attorney’s Office in 1997 and spent seven years assigned to specialized units, including the Domestic Violence, Career Criminal, and Sexual Assault Units. His prosecutorial experience also included sexual predators, child molesters, domestic violence offenders, career criminals, and frauds committed against employers and employees of Orange County.

Before joining the District Attorney’s Office, Ferrentino spent over two years as a civil litigator, during which time he argued two cases before the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

He received a B.A. in literature from Claremont McKenna College in 1991. Ferrentino went on to complete a J.D. at Loyola Law School in 1994.

He is a past president of the Orange County District Attorneys’ Association.

Ferrentino served as a volunteer for the Orange County Gang Reduction and Intervention Partnership and as an advisor to the Employer’s Fraud Task Force.

He received the Diligent Prosecutor Award from Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD) and was named the Outstanding Felony and Misdemeanor Prosecutor by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

Ferrentino was raised in Anaheim and is a graduate of Loara High School. He was active in athletics during high school, playing football, baseball, and wrestling. Ferrentino was later inducted into the Orange County Football Scholar-Athlete Hall of Fame during his senior year.

He and his wife, Jennifer, a fellow attorney, have five children.
