The Hon. Angela C. Dempsey is a judge for the 2nd Judicial Circuit Court of Florida. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jeb Bush in 2005.
The 2nd Judicial Circuit encompasses Franklin County, Gadsden County, Jefferson County, Leon County, Liberty County, and Wakulla County. Dempsey has held assignments in Leon County, presiding over cases in the Civil Division, the Family Division, the Criminal Division, and the Juvenile Division. She has also handled misdemeanor appeals from the Leon County Court.
Dempsey earned a B.S. in finance from San Diego State University in 1990. She then completed a J.D. at the University of Florida, Fredric G. Levin College of Law (1993) and an M.A. in American and Florida studies from Florida State University (2003).
After graduating from law school, Dempsey began her legal career as an assistant state attorney in the Office of the State Attorney for the 9th Judicial Circuit. She served in that capacity for three years, eventually leaving to become a senior attorney for the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Then, in 2000, she transferred to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, where she served as senior assistant general counsel until her appointment to the bench.
Her memberships have included Leadership Tallahassee, the Rotary Club of Tallahassee, the Catholic Charities Board, and the Gulf Winds Track Club. She has also been a member of the Tallahassee Barristers, the Jefferson County Bar Association, the Tallahassee Bar Association, the Tallahassee Women Lawyers Association, the Florida Government Bar Association, and the William H. Stafford Inn of Court.
She has also been involved with the Juvenile Rules Committee and the Constitutional Judiciary Committee of the Florida Bar as well as the Education Committee of the Conference of Circuit Court Judges.
