Judge Andrew M. Battista: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Andrew M. Battista is an associate judge for the Baltimore County Circuit Court in the Third Judicial Circuit of Maryland. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Larry Hogan in December 2018.

Prior to his appointment, Battista had managed his own private solo practice in Baltimore County since 1992. During that time, he handled a range of cases, including personal injury, family law, workers’ compensation claims, and criminal defense.

Battista received a B.S. from Towson University in 1982. He went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1987.

After graduating from law school, Battista began his legal career as an associate at Hardwick, Tripoda & Harris (1987 to 1989), where he defended cases before the Workers’ Compensation Commission and in state trial courts. He then represented construction and life insurance companies for one year at Marlow, Peddicord & Young (1989 to 1990) before starting the law firm of Young & Battista in 1990 (1990 to 1993).

His memberships have included the Maryland State Bar Association and the Baltimore County Bar Association, serving as chair of its Criminal Law Committee, Speaker Committee, and Young Lawyers Committee.

Battista served on the Parish Council at St. John’s Hydes Catholic Church.

He was born in Washington, D.C.
