Biography

The Hon. Andrew A. Steckler is a judge for the Alameda County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench in 2015 by former Governor Jerry Brown. He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Hugh A. Walker (Ret.).

He is a registered Democrat.

Judge Steckler received his B.A. from Williams College. He went on to earn his J.D. from Harvard Law School.

Steckler began his legal career working as an associate with the law firm Heller Ehrman LLP for one year beginning in 1992.

Then, in 1993, he joined the Alameda County Public Defender's Office where he would hold several positions during his twenty-two-year tenure there (leaving only briefly to serve as an associate at Morrison and Foerster LLP in 1998). At the time of his appointment to the Superior Court, Steckler was serving as an assistant public defender, a position he had maintained since 2006.
