Biography

Hon. Alma C. Roberson is a judge for the 2nd Judicial District Court of New Mexico in Bernalillo County. She was appointed to the bench by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham in January 2021.

Prior to her appointment, Roberson worked as an attorney with the New Mexico Law Offices of the Public Defender. She started in the Metro Division and later moved to the Juvenile Division in 2015.

Roberson completed a J.D. at the University of New Mexico School of Law.

Her memberships include the State Bar of New Mexico, sitting as a board member and treasurer of the Criminal Law Section. Roberson also served as a board member of Bernalillo County’s Reducing Racism and Ethnic Diversity Committee and was selected in 2019 to participate in the Ambassadors for Racial Justice Program, which was sponsored by Georgetown Law’s Juvenile Justice Initiative and the National Juvenile Defender Center.

She was also involved with the Juvenile Drug Treatment Court National Project Advisory Board for the National Association of Drug Court Professionals and the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges.

Roberson received the Public Defender in Delinquency Child Welfare and Juvenile Justice Excellence Award from New Mexico Children’s Law Institute in 2020.

She was born in El Paso, Texas, and moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to attend law school in 2009. Her parents immigrated to the United States from Mexico.

Roberson is registered as a Democrat.
