Judge Allan L. Tereshko - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Allan L. Tereshko (Ret.) is a former judge for the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas in Pennsylvania. He was elected to the bench in 1993.

Over the course of his judicial career, Tereshko held assignments as Coordinating Judge of the Complex Litigation Center (2007 to 2008) and Supervising Judge of the Civil Trial Division (2001 to 2002) and Domestic Relations Section of the Family Court (1996 to 1999).

In 2012, he resigned from his position as supervising judge of the Civil Trial Division, following a chastisement from the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. The Court alleged that Tereshko failed to disclose that his wife had ties to a firm that represented an individual in an earlier case that he presided over. His decision in the case was later reversed by the Supreme Court and sent back down to the lower court. Tereshko defended his decision to not recuse himself, stating that his wife had no direct stake in the case.

Tereshko earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and business management from Temple University in 1976. He then completed a J.D. at Temple University, James E. Beasley School of Law in 1979.

His memberships have included the Philadelphia Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, and the Juvenile Court Judges Committee.

Tereshko is a veteran of the United States Air Force, where he served from 1963 to 1967.
