Judge Alison C. Conlon - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Alison C. Conlon is a Circuit Judge for the Illinois Circuit Court of Cook County. Judge Conlon was appointed to the bench in the Chancery Division by the Illinois Supreme Court in 2015, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Thomas L. Hogan.

Conlon earned a Bachelor’s degree (cum laude) from Yale University in 1994 and a Master’s degree in Literature from Georgetown University in 1997. She completed her J.D. (magna cum laude) at Duke University School of Law in 2000 and was admitted to the Illinois Bar the same year.

After graduating from law school, Conlon began her legal career as a law clerk for the Hon. Charles P. Kocoras of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. She then served as an Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of Chicago, Department of Law, before going into private practice at Wildman, Harrold, Allen & Dixon. She stayed for eight years, the last three as a partner. In 2010, she moved to Barnes & Thornburg, where she was a partner and co-chair of the firm’s commercial litigation practice group until her appointment to the bench. While in private practice, Conlon specialized in commercial disputes and toxic tort cases.

Her memberships have included the Board of Directors for the Public Interest Law Initiative and the Advisory Board for Catholic Charities. She has served on the Hearing Board of the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission, the Board of Managers of the Chicago Bar Association, and the Local Rules Committee for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. She also taught legal writing at the John Marshall Law School.

Conlon has been named a "Top 40 Under Forty" honoree, by the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin (2012) and received the Law Bulletin Publishing Company's "Women Making an Impact" honor as part of its 2013 edition of "Women in Law."
