Biography

Hon. Aimee R. Belgard is a judge for the Vicinage 3 Superior Court in Burlington County in New Jersey. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Chris Christie in 2015.

While on the bench, Belgard has held assignments in the Civil Division (2015 to 2018 and 2019 to present) and Family Division (2018 to 2019) in Burlington County. She was named the presiding judge of the Civil Division in 2019.

Prior to joining the judiciary, Belgard was a freeholder with the Burlington County Board of Freeholders, a position she held since 2013.

She also spent three years on the Edgewater Park Township Committee (2010 to 2013) and served as a member of the township’s Planning/Zoning Board before that.

In 2014, Belgard was a congressional candidate in New Jersey’s 3rd Congressional District. Though she won the Democratic nomination in the primary, she was defeated by the Republican candidate, Tom MacArthur, in the general election in November.

In addition to her political career, Belgard practiced for sixteen years as a trial and appellate attorney with the law firm of Sweeney & Sheehan.

She received a B.S. in environmental studies from Stockton University in 1996. Belgard went on to complete a J.D. at Widener University, Delaware Law School in 1999.

Her community involvement has included the American Cancer Society (Executive Board of the Eastern Division), the Cancer Action Network (National Board), the Edgewater Park Township Committee, and her local Neighborhood Watch.

Belgard received the American Cancer Society’s National Saint George Award and Capitol Dome Award.
