Biography

Hon. Adam W. Silverman is a judge for the New York State Court of Claims. He was appointed to the Court of Claims by Governor Andrew Cuomo in 2020.

After joining the Court of Claims, Silverman was then appointed to serve as an acting justice of the Rensselaer County Supreme Court by Chief Administrative Judge Lawrence K. Marks that same year.

He received a B.A. in psychology from George Washington University in 2005. Silverman went on to earn a J.D. from Albany Law School in 2008.

While in law school, he worked as a summer law clerk with the New York County Supreme Court (2006), a law intern for the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York (2007), and as a law intern for the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York (2007 to 2008).

After law school, Silverman joined the New York State Attorney General’s Office, where he served as an assistant attorney general assigned to the Litigation Bureau from 2008 to 2012. Upon his departure from the Attorney General’s Office, Silverman entered into private practice at Greenberg Traurig, LLP, practicing as an associate in the firm’s Litigation Department for three years. Then, in 2015, he became special counsel to the Commissioner for Ethics, Risk and Compliance with the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision. Silverman remained there for one year.

In 2016, he received an appointment to serve as assistant counsel to Governor Andrew Cuomo for Public Safety, where he served until 2019. It was at that time, he returned to the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, this time serving as deputy commissioner and counsel. He remained there until assuming the bench in 2020.

Silverman also served as a volunteer attorney with The Legal Project, where he provided legal assistance to victims of domestic violence.

He has been a member of the Albany County Bar Association.
