Biography

The Hon. Abbe F. Fletman is a judge for the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas in Pennsylvania. Fletman was appointed to the bench by Governor Tom Corbett on June 30, 2014.

Prior to her appointment, Fletman worked as an attorney in private practice, where she specialized in complex litigation and commercial disputes.

Fletman earned a B.A. from the University of Chicago in 1980. She spent the next several years working as a journalist before completing a J.D. at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School (1988) and an LL.M. at Temple University James E. Beasley School of Law (1998).

Her memberships have included the Council of the American Bar Association Litigation Section, the Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations, the Criminal Litigation Committee of the American Bar Association Litigation Section as well as the Philadelphia Bar Association Federal Courts Committee and Civil Rights Committee.

Fletman has sat on the Board of Trustees of the Albert Einstein Healthcare Network and the Free Library of Philadelphia. She was also a member of the Mayor’s Advisory Board on LGBT Concerns and the Women’s Law Project.
