PETITION FOR CERTIFICATE AND SUMMONS TO COMPEL
ATTENDANCE OF OUT-OF-STATE WITNESS
NOW COME THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS by Joel Fletcher, Assistant
State’s Attorney for Champaign County, Illinois, and move for the issuance of a summons and of a
certificate pursuant to 725 ILCS 220/3 requiring the attendance of Kameron Simmons, a resident of the
State of Florida and a material witness herein, to testify herein, and in support thereof, states as follows:
1. The Defendant (Brooke Schoonover) is currently charged herein with having committed the
felony offense of Criminal Trespass to Residence.
2. On information and belief, during the investigation of this case, Kameron Simmons told law
enforcement officers that on September 24, 2020, Defendant and others entered his home at 507
S. 2™ Street, Apartment 509, Champaign, Illinois, while he was present, and remained within, :
without his permission. ;
3. The testimony of Kameron Simmons is material to the jury trial in this matter, which the State
seeks to try in the period from April 28, 2021, to April 30, 2021, in Courtroom A of the
Champaign County Courthouse, 101 E. Main Street, Urbana, Illinois. The People intend to call
Kameron Simmons as a witness in the People’s case in chiefand, therefore, will require the
presence of Kameron Simmons on April 28, 2021, through April 30, 2021.
4. On information and belief, Kameron Simmons currently resides 300 Cabana Boulevard, Unit
2301, Panama City Beach, Florida.
5. On information and belief, Kameron Simmons is more specifically identified as follows: |

6. IfKameron Simmons comes into the State of Illinois in obedience to a summons directing him to
appear and testify at said trial pursuant to 725 ILCS 220/4, he shall not, while in this state
pursuant to said summons, be subject to arrest or the service of process, civil or criminal, in
connection with matters which arose before his entrance into this State under the summons.
7. The State is willing to provide Kameron Simmons with a pre-paid airline ticket and bus
transportation to the site of the trial. The State is willing to reimburse Kameron Simmons for the
actual costs of meals and lodging during his stay. The State hereby gives notice to Defendant
that, should she be convicted in this matter, all court-approved costs associated with travel of
Kameron Simmons to Illinois for the purposes of testifying at trial in this matter will be taxed
against her as costs of prosecution pursuant to 725 ILCS 5/124A-5. See People v. Shackelford,
225 Ill. App.3d 676, 588 N.E.2d 403 (1992).
8. While Kameron Simmons is in the State of Illinois pursuant to this Petition, the State will not
seek to arrest him or serve him with criminal or civil process in connection with matters which
arose before his entrance into the State of Illinois pursuant to this Petition.
WHEREFORE, THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS respectfully request that
this Court issue a summons anda certificate pursuant to 725 ILCS 220/3 requiring the attendance of
Kameron Simmons before this court.
