AFFIDAVIT OF COUNSEL
IN SUPPORT OF MOTION FOR SPEEDY HEARING
I, Matthew H. Beaulieu, Counsel for the Petitioner hereby states as follows:
1. I represent the Petitioner, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, in connection with the above
captioned matter
2. The Respondent is a 61 year old male, who presented to Falmouth Hospital with acute onset
of left-sided weakness and dysarthria. He was found to have suffered a right internal carotid
artery and right middle cerebral artery occlusion. The Respondent was transferred to
Brigham and Women’s Hospital for mechanical thrombectomy and then to Brigham and
Women’s Neurology ICU for further management. On August 27, 2021, Respondent
underwent a decompressive hemicraniectomy for malignant edema due to a large right
MCA/ACA/PCA infarct. The Respondent remains intubated and is minimally interactive.
The Respondent is unable to make medical decisions, and is in need of a guardian.
3. The Respondent has a severe level of impairment in his level of cognitive functioning
secondary to suffering a right internal carotid artery and right middle cerebral artery
occlusion, and necessary surgery to treat this life threatening condition. He is unable to meet
essential requirements for physical health, safety and self care.
4. The Respondent is in need of a guardian to make decisions regarding his medical and a safe
discharge plan.
