                      Subject:       Rejected            Talc     Trailer        #5297


                                                     On November           25,1980,          a talc       trailer        shi.pment         was rejected              at
                  Kolmar     due to water              being       found      in the       product        discharge          line.         In addition,              one
                  top hatch        seal      was not         sealed      properly.           Kolmar       was instucted              not to use the trailer.
                  The trailer          was then          delivered         to Dameo Trucking                  in Finderne,              N.J.     for     inspection
                  by C.Q.A..
                                                     At the time           of inspection,               talc      samples         from     the     trailer         and
                  swab samples            from     the product           discharge           pi.pe were taken.               Results         from      the talc
                  samples       showed        low bacteria            counts,        no diagnostic              problems          and low mold,              except
                  one sample         taken       from     an unused           sampling         port,      which      showed         high     levels        of mold.
                  A resample         taken       from     this       sample       port     showed      a reduction              in mold        count.        Initial
                  swab samples            taken      from     the product            discharge         pipe       showed       extremely           high      counts
                  and existence             of harmful          organisms.
                                                     On Thursday           December          11, 1980,          the trailer             was sent         back to
                  Kolmar,      where        a re-sanitization                 of the product              discharge          piping        was performed.
                  This    sanitization             was done by flooding                    the    product         discharge           pipe     with      70% I.P.A.
                  and letting          it    sit     for    one hour.           The I.P.A.           was then        drained          from     the pipe          and
                  dried     by using         the microbially               filtered          unloading          blower.        Swab samples              of the
                  sanitized        discharge           pipe     showed.both            the     bacteria         and the mold             counts        to be less
                  than     10 per gram and negative                      diagnostics.
                                                     Based on the             successful          sanitization             of the piping               and the
                  acceptable         talc       samples,        it    is recommended              that      this     talc       shipment         be deviated            and
                  used       at     Kolmar,        for      the     production           of   Johnson's      Baby     Powder       Formula        #499.
