On 09/13/2022 at 1321 hours, I responded to 14964 Max Leggett Pkwy (Dicks Sporting Goods) about a theft In progress.
Upon my arrival off duty, Ofc. C. Bernard #62798 had already made contact with the complainant, Ms. Caryn Marinello, about a
shoplifter in the dressing room. Ms. Marinello stated the suspect, Mr. Maurice Brown took a cart full of clothing (Property 1) Into
the dressing room and was actively removing anti-theft devices from the clothing. Ofc. Bernard made contact with Mr. Brown
outside the dressing room after waiting multiple minutes outs! Ofc. Bernard found three pairs of Nike shorts with anti-theft ink
on them. It should be noted the shorts were size children's small, men's small, and adult extra-large. Ofc. Bernard found the anti-
theft Ink devices hidden behind a light and on the floor of the dressing room. Mr. Brown was found with the distinctive blue antl-
theft Ink on the Inside of his hands.
J read Mr. Brown his constitutional rights via card, and he stated he understood. Mr. Brown explained that while actively trying on
the clothes, the anti-theft devices got caught on his fingers and went off. | asked why Mr. Brown would need to try on children’s
and women's sports bras, and he did not have any reasoning. In order to allow Mr. Brown to collaborate his story of the anti-theft
devices going off while he was actively trying on the clothes, | asked to see his waist or legs, and he refused. | asked Mr. Brown
why a person of his stature (250 LBS) would attempt to try on a children's small or adult small, and he did not have any
reasoning. Mr. Brown could not explain why the shopping cart of clothes was in the dressing room with him.
Ofc. A. Braddam #73755 observed the store's video footage with the complainant. The store's footage shows Mr. Brown entering
the dressing room at 1255 hours with a shopping cart full of merchandise (Property 1). Ofc. Bernard arrives at the exit to the
dressing room at 1307 hours, and Mr. Brown exits the dressing room with ink on his hands at 1316 hours. At this time, the store's
video is not available for export.
Based on the suspect removing multiple anti-theft devices from clothing and attempting to hide the exploded anti-theft devices
and the blue anti-theft ink on the suspect's hands, the suspect was placed under arrest for attempted grand theft.
The store's inventory receipt (Property 2) was placed in the property room.
Evidence Detective M. Harrell #76337 responded to the scene to photograph the suspect's hands and anti-theft devices.
The suspect was transported to the PTDF without Incident.
