COMMONWEALTH OF MASSACHUSETTS
DUKES, SS. SUPERIOR COURT DEPARTMENT
OF THE TRIAL COURT
READE KONTJE MILNE, Zoning Officer
for the Town of Edgartown,
Plaintiff, CIVIL ACTION NO. 2174CV00021
Vv.
CHRISTOPHER CHAMBERS,
Defendant.
AFFIDAVIT OF CHRISTOPHER CHAMBERS
I, Christopher Chambers, under the penalties of perjury, do hereby depose and state as
follows:
1 Town the property at 1, 3, 5 and 9 Holly Bear Lane in Edgartown, Massachusetts.
These street numbers correspond with the information on the Edgartown tax records for my
property. The property is subdivided into four parcels.
2 Tam 47 years old. I was in a long-term relationship for many years and lived with
that person. However, that relationship ended this year.
3 Shortly after that relationship ended, I needed to move onto my property because I
had nowhere else to go.
4 Thave a camper on my land that I live in.
5 [have a port-a-potty on my property for waste. I have it commercially cleaned
each week.
6 Thave seven vehicles on my land, all of which Town. These include four
registered vehicles (three trucks and one car), a minivan, and two unregistered box trucks. I use
the box trucks to store all my life possessions, including furniture and equipment. One of the
box trucks has the “FedEx” logo and the other is orange.
7 Tam in the process of getting rid of the minivan.
8 I would like to locate a metal storage container on my land as a garage. I can use
that space to store my belongings out of sight and get rid of the two box trucks. Then I would
have only four vehicles on the property.
9 I can also get rid of the boat on the property which belongs to my father. He is
going to pick it up this month and take it off my property.
10. Ihave a perimeter fence around my property for privacy and because it makes
my vehicles less visible from the road. I do not leave trash or debris on my property.
11. I work full-time as a sanitation driver for ABC Disposal. On a part-time basis, I
also drive a tow truck and tow vehicles.
12. I do not operate a junk yard on my property and I do not run a car repair business
on my property either.
13. My plan is to build a home on my property for me. I need to sell the other
parcels to raise the money for my own home.
14. In February 2019, I was sued by some developers and their attorneys, who
include Richard Brown, Paul Adler and Attorney George Brush. The developers purchased
adjacent parcels to mine and now claim that part of my land belongs to them because of an
alleged incorrect boundary used when my parcels were created. I believe they are incorrect.
However, until that lawsuit is resolved, the title to my parcels is not clear and I cannot move
forward with my plan for my own land.
15. I’m really caught between a rock and a hard place.
16. My plan is to apply for a Special Permit from the Edgartown Zoning Board of
Appeals so that I can install my camper on fixed blocks or another similar arrangement as a
temporary, nonconforming structure that I can live in while I try to resolve the other lawsuit
with the developers and then build a conforming house where I can live. Alternatively, if I can
sell my property to the developers for enough money, then I can build a home elsewhere.
17. Everything depends on me being able to live on my land temporarily until I can
sort out these other matters.
SIGNED UNDER THE PENALTIES OF PERJURY THIS 6th DAY OF JULY, 2021.
