| 1276 Dorothy Avenue, San Leandro, California: Around 1967, plaintiff removed and replaced
| tiles with CONGOLEUM linoleum tiles in the kitchen.
FRICTION EXPOSURE:
Plaintiff performed maintenance on his own vehicles. When changing brakes, plaintiff took off
| the wheels and tires. Plaintiff used a hammer and screw drivers to separate the drums from the
brake shoes. Plaintiff blew out the drums with his mouth, hit them with a rag to dislodge
additional residue. Plaintiff removed the brake shoes and used wire brushes, screw drivers, and
chisels to clean the drums, and then installed the new shoes and put the wheels back on.
Plaintiff sanded brake shoes and drums whenever needed.
1937 DODGE Brothers: Plaintiff purchased this car used. Plaintiff removed all four wheel
drums and replaced the brakes with BENDIX brakes in 1967. Plaintiff purchased BENDIX
brakes from NAPA AUTO PARTS, Oakland, California. Plaintiff also replaced engine gaskets
with VICTOR exhaust gaskets.
1950/1951 PLYMOUTH Savoy: Plaintiff purchased this vehicle new. Plaintiff replaced the
original brakes with BENDIX brakes in 1965. Plaintiff recalls the brakes were purchased from
| NAPA AUTO PARTS, Oakland or San Leandro, Califomia. Plaintiff also reptaced gaskets
with VICTOR exhaust gaskets and head gaskets.
1953 CHEVROLET truck: Plaintiff purchased this vehicle used in 1967 or 1968. From 1968 to
| 1969, plaintiff replaced the brakes two times with BENDIX brakes. Plaintiff purchased the
brakes from NAPA AUTO PARTS, Garden City, Kansas, and CHECKER AUTO PARTS,
Arizona. Plaintiff replaced the exhaust and gaskets with VICTOR gaskets. Plaintiff also
overhauled the engine and replaced the muffler.
1953 CHEVROLET Bel Air; Plaintiff replaced brakes with BENDIX brakes on his neighbor’s
car that had about 60,000 miles on it.

1956 BSA A10 Road Rocket motorcycle: Plaintiff purchased this vehicle used. Plaintiff
teplaced the brakes two to three times with BSA brakes and performed exhaust work. Plaintiff
also replaced original gaskets with BSA gaskets. . .
1961 CADILLAC Coupe de Ville: Plaintiff purchased this vehicle used. Plaintiff replaced the
brakes two times with BENDIX brakes. Plaintiff overhauled the original engine, replaced the
original exhaust, and replaced gaskets with a VICTOR gasket kit. Plaintiff purchased ail these
replacements parts from NAPA AUTO PARTS, Oakland, California.
1961/1962 CHEVROLET station wagon: Plaintiff purchased this vehicle used and replaced the
brakes with parts purchased from NAPA AUTO PARTS, Hayward, California. Plaintiff
| performed work on the exhaust. Plaintiff replaced the gaskets with VICTOR gaskets.
mid-1980s MERCURY Cougar: Plaintiff purchased this vehicle with 60,000 miles. Piaintiff
replaced two original disc brakes and two original drum brakes with BENDIX parts that were
i purchased from NAPA AUTO PARTS, Lincoln, California. Plaintiff recalls the original brakes
| said FORD FoMoCo on the brakes. ‘
PARA-OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE:
t From 1949 to 1956, plaintiff lived with his father, Milo J. Castagna, deceased, who
|| worked in the Oakland private shipyards. Plaintiff's father was a shipwright and would come
15] home in his work overalls, Plaintiff would play with his father before his father changed his
t clothes.
H Plaintiff lived with his step-father, Elton J. Choate, deceased, who was a steamfitter for

Qil, Martinez, California, and Rancho Seco Nuclear Powerhouse, Herald, California.
Plaintiff currently contends that he was exposed to asbestos during these home remodeling,
19) vehicle repairs, and his father’s and step-father’s employments.
Plaintiff's exposure to asbestos and asbestos-containing products caused severe and
21 permanent injury to the plaintiff, including, but not limited to breathing difficulties, asbestosis,

234 and various other cancers. Plaintiff was diagnosed with asbestosis and asbestos-related pleural
and/or other lung damage, and increased risk and fear of developing mesothelioma, lung cancer
26 to an ifiness not related to asbestos. He has therefore suffered no disability from his asbestos-
27 || related disease as “disability” is defined in California Code of Civil Procedure § 340.2.
