Overview
This dispute arises out of Defendants’ intentional and malicious defamation
campaign against Plaintiff, an Irish Dance performer and teacher who had an excellent reputation
in the close-knit Irish Dance community until the Defendants defamed him. Defendant Ciara
McGovern, acting as agent of the DeNogla School, and at the direction of her employer and boss,
Jennifer McGovern (the co-owner of the DeNogla School), falsely stated to third parties (a) that
there was a pending “case” involving Hodges and inappropriate relations with girls under the age
of 14; and (b) that Mr. Hodges had sex with a female minor who was 17 -- both outrageous and
false claims that have no basis in fact whatsoever. As a direct and proximate result of Defendants’

defamation campaign, Hodges’ reputation has been destroyed, as Irish Dance companies that
previously wished to work, and worked, with Hodges suddenly will not work with him because of
the defamatory assertions spread by Defendants, and parents will no longer allow their children to
be taught by Hodges.
Plaintiff therefore demands that Defendants be held responsible for their malicious
and, in the least, grossly reckless disregard for the truth in making false and defamatory statements
about Plaintiff; portraying him in a false light, to his substantial detriment; and maliciously and
intentionally interfering with his prospective business relationships. Further, because the
Defendants acted with malice and engaged in wanton misconduct, which utterly destroyed the
Plaintiff’s reputation and career, Plaintiff demands an award of punitive damages.
