Texas Administrative Code|§110.10 Use of General Anesthetic Agents

                                                

(a) No dentist shall administer or employ the general anesthetic agent(s) listed in subsection (b) of this section, which has a narrow margin for maintaining consciousness, unless the dentist possesses a valid Level 4 - General Anesthesia or Deep Sedation permit issued by the Board. (b) The following drugs are general anesthesia agents with a narrow margin for maintaining consciousness and must only be used by a dentist holding a Level 4 - General Anesthesia or Deep Sedation permit:   (1) short acting barbiturates including, but not limited to thiopental, sodium methohexital, and thiamylal;   (2) short acting analogues of fentanyl including, but not limited to remifentanil, alfentanil, and sufentanil;   (3) alkylphenols including precursors or derivatives, which includes, but not limited to propofol and fospropofol;   (4) etomidate;   (5) dissociative anesthetics - ketamine;   (6) volatile inhalation anesthetics including, but not limited to sevoflurane, desflurane and isoflurane; and   (7) similarly acting drugs or quantity of agent(s), or technique(s), or any combination thereof that would likely render a patient deeply sedated, generally anesthetized or otherwise not meeting the conditions of the definition of moderate sedation as stated in §110.1 of this chapter (relating to Definitions). (c) No permit holder shall have more than one person under general anesthesia at the same time exclusive of recovery.
