The Hon. William W. Bland is a judge for the Wayne County Superior Court in the 8th Judicial District of the 2nd Division in North Carolina. He was elected to the bench on November 8, 2016.
Prior to his election, Bland was a partner at Bland, Heekin & Stanley, a law firm he joined in 2003. Before that, he spent time as an attorney at Baddour, Parker & Hine.
Bland earned a bachelor’s degree from Duke University in 1982. He spent the next several years working as a CPA at Pittard Perry & Crone and a business analyst for Progress Energy before completing a J.D. at the University of North Carolina School of Law in 1992.
After graduating from law school, Bland began his legal career as an assistant district attorney in the Wayne County District Attorney’s Office. He served in that capacity until 1999, at which time he entered into private practice.
His memberships have included the Goldsboro Rotary Club and the Wayne County Bar Association. He has also been involved with the American Heart Association, Habitat for Humanity, and Leadership Wayne County.
He is a recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from the Goldsboro Jaycees.
Born and raised in Goldsboro, North Carolina, Bland graduated from Wayne County Day School. He and his wife, Ellen, have two children. The family attends St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.
