Biography

The Hon. William A. Sanchez (Ret.) served as a judge for the 13th Judicial District Court of New Mexico. Sanchez was elected to the bench in 1992. He retired in 2014 and opened Sanchez Settlement & legal Services.


The 13th Judicial District encompasses Cibola County, Sandoval County, and Valencia County. Over the course of his judicial career, Sanchez presided over hundreds of civil jury and bench trials, many involving complex litigation. He also sat as the Chief Judge for the 13th Judicial District Court (1996 to 2001).


Prior to his appointment, Sanchez worked as an attorney in his own private practice, a law firm he opened in 1983. He specialized in personal injury, workers compensation, real estate, and domestic relations matters in Los Lunas.


Sanchez earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of New Mexico in 1976. He then completed a J.D. at the University of New Mexico School of Law in 1980.


After graduating from law school, Sanchez began his legal career as an assistant district attorney for the Bernalillo County District Attorney’s Office.


Born and raised in Belen, New Mexico, Sanchez attended Belen High School. He decided to become an attorney after his former brother-in-law, Tom Esquibel, encouraged him to apply to law school.
