Hon. Wayne E. Grannis is a judge for the Cobb County Juvenile Court in Georgia. He was appointed to the bench by the Cobb County Superior Court judges in August 2018.
During his tenure on the Juvenile Court, Grannis has served as its presiding judge and is credited with starting the Rebuild, Invest, Support, Integrate, and Graduate (R.I.S.I.N.G.) specialty court, which seeks to assist youth who are at risk of gang involvement by providing cognitive behavior therapy, life skills, mentoring, and education.
Prior to joining the bench, Grannis had worked as a senior assistant district attorney in the Juvenile Unit of the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office since 2017.
Before that, he held several positions with the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office. After beginning there as an assistant district attorney in 2008, Grannis worked his way up through the ranks, serving as a senior assistant district attorney and deputy chief assistant district attorney, a position he held until his departure in 2017. As such, he served as director of the Juvenile Unit, where he was tasked with supervising the Unit’s eleven employees.
Over the course of his legal career, Grannis also served for three years as a child advocate for dependent children and was a staff attorney to the Chief Judge of the Fulton County Juvenile Court.
He received a B.A. in criminal justice from the University of Georgia in 1989. While at university, Grannis was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the Golden Key National Honor Society. He went on to complete a J.D. at Georgia State University College of Law in 2003.
His memberships have included the Council of Juvenile Court Judges, the Cobb County Bar Association, the State Bar of Georgia, and the American Bar Association.
Grannis presents the Legal Education and Awareness for Parents and Students (LEAPS) program as a speaker at local schools.
He was inducted into the Marquis Who’s Who Biographical Registry in 2019.
Grannis resides in Powder Springs, Georgia, with his wife and two sons. In his free time, he enjoys reading, playing golf, and spending time with his family.
