The Hon. Trevor N. McFadden is a district judge of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. He was nominated to the bench by former President Donald Trump on June 7, 2017. McFadden was confirmed by the United States Senate on October 30, 2017, and he received his judicial commission the following day.
Prior to his nomination, he was a deputy assistant attorney general and second-in-command of the Criminal Division of the United States Department of Justice. As such, he managed the Division’s Fraud and Appellate Sections. He first joined the Department of Justice as counsel to the deputy attorney general and as an assistant United States attorney with the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia but left for a four-year stint in private practice as a partner at Baker & McKenzie, LLP, where his practice focused on white-collar investigations.
He received a B.A. in English and political science from Wheaton College in 2001. McFadden then completed a J.D. at the University of Virginia School of Law in 2006. While a law student, he was a member of the Order of the Coif and Editor of the Virginia Law Review.
After graduating from law school, McFadden began his legal career as a clerk for the Hon. Steven Colloton with the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.
He is a co-author of the legal treatise, “Corporate Settlement Tools: DPAs, NPAs, and Cooperation Agreements.”
McFadden was raised in Fairfax Station, Virginia. In addition to his legal career, he also gained experience in law enforcement in Virginia, serving as an officer with the Fairfax County Police Department and as a deputy sheriff in Madison County.
