The Hon. Toni King is a judge for the Cumberland County District Court in the 12th Judicial District of North Carolina. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Bev Perdue in 2009.
King was appointed by Chief Justice Paul Newby as Chief District Court Judge in Cumberland County in 2021. She is also credited with creating the first human trafficking court, known as W.O.R.T.H. Court (We Overcome Recidivism Through Healing), in Cumberland County, which has served as a model for the state.
Prior to her appointment, she was a managing attorney at Miller, King & Clouse, PLLC since 2004. Before joining the firm, King was associated with Rogers & Miller for four years (2000 to 2004). She has also taught as an adjunct professor at Fayetteville State University.
King received a bachelor’s degree in English language and literature from North Carolina Central University in 1996. She then completed a J.D. at North Carolina Central University School of Law in 2000.
King served as a commissioner for the North Carolina State Dispute Resolution Commission and is a member of the Board of Advisors of Cumberland County CommuniCare, Inc.; The Links, Inc.; and the Upsilon Kappa Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
Her mother was raised in South Korea and met her father there during his service in the United States Army.
