Judge Tommy Stolhandske: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Tommy Stolhandske (Ret.) served as a judge for the Bexar County Court at Law No. 11 in Texas. Stolhandske was first elected to the bench in 2014 and re-elected in 2018. He resigned at the conclusion of his term on December 31, 2022, and became a visiting judge for the State of Texas.


Over the course of his judicial career, Stolhandske presided over the Bexar County Treatment Recovery and Accountability Court. He also played an instrumental role in the creation and implementation of one of the first 48-hour bond review dockets in Texas.


Stolhandske earned a B.S. in kinesiology from Texas Lutheran University in 2005. He spent the next year working as a freelance tour manager for Intersport. Then, in 2009, he completed a J.D. at St. Mary's University School of Law. As a law student, Stolhandske was a criminal intake intern for the Bexar County District Attorney's Office (2008).


After graduating from law school, Stolhandske entered into private practice. He started his own private practice with his father and grandfather, handling criminal, family, probate, and traffic matters.


Born and raised in Bexar County, Stolhandske attended Churchill High School, where he played all-city basketball. He comes from a family of attorneys. His grandfather served as a Bexar County Commissioner, and his father worked as a local attorney.


He is registered as a Republican.
