Judge Tara A. Collins: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

The Hon. Tara A. Collins is a judge for the Criminal Court of the City of New York in Bronx County. She was designated to the Criminal Court in 2018.

Collins began her judicial career as a judge for the Civil Court of the City of New York in Bronx County, a position to which former Mayor Bill de Blasio appointed her in 2017. She was reappointed by Mayor de Blasio in 2018.

Prior to her appointment to the bench, Collins worked for eighteen years as an attorney in the Criminal Defense Practice at Legal Aid Society, where she spent half of that time as a mental health attorney.

She received a B.A. from the State University of New York at Geneseo in 1995. Collins went on to complete a J.D. at Touro Law Center in 1998. She was admitted to practice in New York in 1999.
