The Hon. Tamara L. Yon is a judge for the 9th Judicial District Court of Minnesota. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Tim Pawlenty on April 7, 2006.
The 9th Judicial District includes Aitkin County, Beltrami County, Cass County, Clearwater County, Crow Wing County, Hubbard County, Itasca County, Kittson County, Koochiching County, Lake of the Woods County, Mahnomen County, Marshall County, Norman County, Pennington County, Polk County, Red Lake County, and Roseau County.
Prior to her appointment, Yon was an attorney at Johannson, Rust, Yon, Stock & Rasmussen, a law firm she joined in 1994. During her tenure there, she supplemented her practice with service as a Chapter 7 Trustee for the United States Department of Justice (2003 to 2006).
Yon earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and business administration from Concordia College in 1991. She then completed a J.D. at the University of North Dakota School of Law in 1994. As a law student, she was the editor-in-chief of the North Dakota Law Review.
Her memberships have included the Minnesota State Bar Association, the Minnesota Judicial Council, and the Minnesota District Judges Association. She also sat on the board of Northwest Minnesota Legal Services, Sunrise Children’s Center, and the Crookston Education Foundation.
She was named Volunteer of the Year by the Friends of the Crookston Public Library (2006).
