Judge Suzanne H. Stovall: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Suzanne H. Stovall (Ret.) served as a judge for the 221st District Court of Texas in Montgomery County. Stovall was elected to the bench on November 3, 1998. Shortly after, she became the first female to serve as an administrative judge in Montgomery County. She retired in 2010.


Stovall began her judicial career as a judge for the Montgomery County Court at Law No. 1, a position to which she was elected in 1986.


She earned a B.A. from Trinity College. She then completed a J.D. at the University of Texas at Austin School of Law.


After graduating from law school, Stovall began her legal career as a juvenile prosecutor in the Office of the Hale County Attorney. She then entered into private practice, handling general civil matters until her election.


Her memberships have included the Montgomery County Bar Association, the Texas State Judicial Ethics Committee, the Montgomery County Salvation Army Board, the Texas Center for the Judiciary, Inc., Montgomery County Republican Women, and Pathfinder Republican Women.


She was named Montgomery County YWCA Woman of the Year (1988) and Montgomery County Lawyer of the Year (1991).


Born and raised in Houston, Stovall graduated from St. Agnes Academy. Her daughter works as a clinical psychologist in New York City. Her son is a neurosurgeon in Dallas.


Stovall is registered as a Republican.
