The Hon. Susan M. Dauphine (Ret.) served as a judge for the Monterey County Superior Court in California. Dauphine was appointed to the bench by former Governor Pete Wilson in 1998. She retired on March 5, 2014.
Dauphine earned a bachelor’s degree from Stanford University in 1965. She then completed a J.D. at Columbia Law School in 1968.
After graduating from law school, Dauphine began her legal career as an attorney for the United States Department of Health in Boston. She spent the next several years teaching commercial law in Guantanamo Bay (1970 to 1972) and practicing law in Rochester, Minnesota (1972 to 1975). Then, in 1975, she relocated to California with her husband. At that time, she became a partner at Hoge, Fenton, Jones & Appel (1975 to 1993) and Fenton & Keller (1993 to 1998).
Her memberships have included the Association of Defense Counsel of Northern California, the Monterey County Bar Association (president), and the Monterey County Bar Foundation (founder).
She also sat on the Board of Directors of Lyceum of Monterey Peninsula (1978 to 1984), the Board of Directors of Community Health Promotion Program Monterey County (1986 to 1988), and the Board of Directors of Volunteers in Action (1982 to 1984), the Board of Trustees of the Monterey County Law Library as well as the Monterey County Commission on Status Women (1976 to 1980).
Dauphine was born in Los Angeles, California.
