The Hon. Steven Jumes is a judge for the 485th District Court in Tarrant County, Texas. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Greg Abbott on August 9, 2022.
Prior to his appointment, Jumes was a managing member of the Law Office of Steven Jumes, a firm he established in 2019. Before that, he spent time as a partner at Varghese Summersett (2015 to 2019) and a senior associate at Brown (2013 to 2014). He specialized in asset forfeiture litigation, emerging business consultation, white collar defense, and tax controversies.
Jumes earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and government from the University of Texas at Austin in 1993. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Texas at Austin School of Law in 1996. Jumes is Board Certified in Criminal Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
After graduating from law school, Jumes began his legal career as an assistant district attorney with the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office. During his tenure there, he specialized in crimes against children, and he supervised the grand jury section. Then, in 2006, Jumes became a financial advisor at UBS Financial Services.
Jumes worked in financial services until 2009, at which time he became an assistant district attorney with the Public Integrity Section of the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office. He served in that capacity for one year, eventually leaving to become a trial attorney with the Criminal Division of the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas. During his tenure there, he prosecuted white collar crime and asset forfeiture cases.
His memberships have included the Federalist Society and the YMCA Youth in Government Alumni Association.
Jumes and his wife, Debrah, have two children. The family attends First Baptist Church of Saginaw.
He is registered as a Republican.
