The Hon. Stevan H. Thompson is a judge for the 7th Judicial District Court of Idaho. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Butch Otter on March 1, 2018, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Alan Stephens.
The 7th Judicial District encompasses Bingham, Bonneville, Butte, Clark, Custer, Fremont, Jefferson, Lemhi, Madison, and Teton Counties.
Prior to his appointment, Thompson was a partner at Thompson, Smith, Woolf, Anderson, Wilkinson & Birch, a law firm he joined in 2007. Before that, he spent time as an attorney at Woolf, Combo & Thompson (1990 to 2006), the Thompson Law Offices (1988 to 1989), and McGrath & Baker (1988), specializing in criminal defense matters.
Thompson earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Idaho. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Idaho College of Law.
After graduating from law school, Thompson began his legal career as a judicial law clerk to the Hon. Arnold T. Beebe of the 7th Judicial District Court. He served in that capacity until 1984, at which time he joined the Bonneville County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
His memberships have included the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Idaho Law Foundation, the Citizens Law Academy, and the Eagle Rock American Inn of Court. He has also been involved with the Bonneville County Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Thompson was born and raised in Jerome, Idaho. He and his wife, DeeAnn, have two adult children.
