The Hon. Stephen P. Spencer is a judge for the Lee County Court in Mississippi. He was elected to the bench on November 8, 2022, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. James D. Moore.
Prior to his election, Spencer was a partner at Mitchell, McNutt & Sams, a law firm he joined in 2006. He specialized in civil litigation, handling insurance, railroad, and employment discrimination defense matters. Spencer also supplemented his practice with service as a court appointed guardian ad litem in the 1st Chancery Court (2019 2022).
Spencer earned a B.B.A. from the University of Mississippi in 2003. He then completed a J.D. at Mississippi College School of Law in 2006. As a law student, he clerked for the Hon. Donna Barnes, who is now the Chief Judge of the Mississippi Court of Appeals.
He is licensed to practice in Tennessee and Mississippi.
His memberships have included the American Bar Association, the Lee County Bar Association and the Lee County Young Lawyers. He has also been involved with the Board of Directors of the Mississippi Volunteer Lawyers Project.
A resident of Saltillo, Mississippi, Spencer and his wife Courtney, have three children. They attend First United Methodist Church of Tupelo.
