The Hon. Stephen J. Capineri (Ret.) served as an associate justice for the Rhode Island Family Court. Capineri was appointed to the bench by former Governor Lincoln Almond on January 3, 2001. He retired on March 31, 2021.
Prior to his appointment, Capineri was a magistrate for the Rhode Island Family Court, a position to which he was named in 1996. Before that, he spent time as a judge for the East Providence Probate Court (1985 to 1996).
Capineri earned a bachelor’s degree from Providence College in 1976. He then completed a J.D. at Suffolk University Law School in 1979.
His memberships have included the Rhode Island Bar Association and the Massachusetts Bar Association.
