The Hon. Stephanie N. Mitchell is a judge for the 291st District Court in Dallas County, Texas. She was elected to the bench in 2014 and re-elected in 2018 and 2022.
Prior to her election, Mitchell was an assistant district attorney for the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office, a position to which she was named in 2008. During her tenure there, she helped start the Dallas County District Attorney’s Citizens Prosecutor Academy, rising through the ranks to become the chief felony prosecutor for the Dallas County Gang Unit.
Mitchell earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and government from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2002. She then completed a J.D. at the University of Kansas School of Law in 2005. She was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 2006.
After graduating from law school, Mitchell practiced civil litigation and criminal defense. Then, in 2007, she joined the Navarro County District Attorney’s Office as its chief juvenile prosecutor.
She was named Prosecutor of the Year by the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office (2012).
Born and raised in Kansas City, Kansas, Mitchell resides in Dallas County. She has been married to Winston O. Huff, a patent attorney at Munsch Hardt Kopf & Harr. She attends Concord Church.
