The Hon. Songhai D. Miguda-Armstead (Ret.) was a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jerry Brown on July 16, 2015, following an unsuccessful bid for the bench in the 2014 election. Miguda-Armstead retired on September 25, 2020, accepting the position of Executive Director of the Alternatives to Incarceration Initiative for Los Angeles County with the Chief Executive's Office.
She received a B.A. in psychology from the University of Nevada, Reno. Miguda-Armstead went on to complete a J.D. at the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law in 2003.
After graduating from law school, Miguda-Armstead began her legal career as a trial lawyer for the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office (2003 to 2008). During her tenure there, she served as a City Attorney liaison in partnership with the Los Angeles Police Department in their efforts to form a task force in the Skid Row area to address crime and public health issues. At the time of her appointment to the Superior Court, Miguda-Armstead held the position of supervising deputy city attorney, having served in that capacity since 2008.
For her work as a liaison, she was recommended for the Los Angeles Police Department's Distinguished Service Medal, which she received in May 2013.
In addition to her work as a city attorney, Miguda-Armstead also served as President and CEO of, Songhai Solutions LLP, a conflict resolution company she started in 2012.
Some of her memberships included the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the UCLA Alumni Association, the Black City Attorneys Association, the California Bar Association, and the Black Women Lawyers Association.
Miguda-Armstead, a native of Los Angeles, is a registered Democrat.
