The Hon. Simone A. Levine is a judge for the Orleans Parish Criminal District Court of Louisiana. She was elected to the bench in 2023.
Levine received a bachelor’s degree in political science and East Asian studies from McGill University in 1996. She then completed a J.D. at the University of Connecticut School of Law in 2001. As a law student, Levine sat as Editor-in-Chief of the Connecticut Public Interest Law Journal.
She began her legal career as counsel at Legal Aid Society in 2001. Five years later, Levine became associate counsel to Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and the Assembly Standing Committee on Codes in the New York State Assembly. Then, in 2009, she transitioned to the role of counsel to the New York State Senate. Levine then joined the New York Office of the Attorney General in 2011, though her time there was brief.
Later that same year, she relocated to New Orleans, Louisiana, to become a deputy police monitor in the Office of the Independent Police Monitor in New Orleans, where she was tasked with monitoring the New Orleans Police Department’s use of force cases as well as working with major police associations to vet internal police retaliation issues. Then, in 2015, she became head of Court Watch NOLA until 2022. Levine then joined the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office, where she helped prosecute murder, child rape, and attempted murder cases as an assistant district attorney. She remained in that capacity until her election to the bench.
Levine has two boys. She attended Ridgefield High School.
Levine is registered as a Democrat.
