Hon. Sherri D. Koch is the District Administrative Judge for the District Court of Maryland in District Six. She was appointed to the position in November 2020 by the Hon. John P. Morrissey, Chief Judge of the District Court of Maryland.
District Six consists of Montgomery County.
Koch was first appointed to serve as an associate judge of the Montgomery County District Court by Governor Larry Hogan in December 2016. During her tenure on the bench, she has sat as a member of the Montgomery County Criminal Justice Coordinating Commission since 2020.
Prior to beginning her judicial career, Koch spent twenty years as an assistant state’s attorney with the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, having joined the office in 1997. While there, she spent time as a senior prosecutor in the Special Victims Unit (2014 to 2017).
Koch received a B.A. in politics from Brandeis University in 1990. She went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Maryland, Francis King Carey School of Law in 1993.
She was admitted to practice in Maryland (1993), the United States District Court for the District of Maryland (1994), the District of Columbia (1996), and Virginia (1996).
After graduating from law school, Koch began her legal career as a law clerk to the Hon. Robert F. Fischer with the Court of Special Appeals (1993 to 1995). Then, upon completing her clerkship, she became an associate at Jacobs, Jacobs & Farber (1995 to 1996) and Fitzpatrick & Verstegen (1996). She left private practice to join the State’s Attorney’s Office.
Her memberships have included the Maryland State Bar Association, the Montgomery County Bar Association, the Montgomery County Chapter of the Women’s Bar Association, the Alan J. Goldstein Inn of Court, and the Montgomery County Inn of Court.
Koch received the Shield, Honor, Integrity, Excellence, Leadership, Dedication (SHIELD) Award from the Anti-Defamation League in 2014.
Koch was born in Silver Spring, Maryland.
