The Hon. Shelly A. Mulkey is a magistrate for the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. She was appointed to the bench by Chief Judge Robert E. Morin on October 31, 2016.
Prior to her appointment, Mulkey was an assistant attorney general in the Child Support Services Division of the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia. She also spent time as an associate at the Law Offices of Alice Pare.
Mulkey earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Tulane University. She then completed a J.D. at the American University, Washington College of Law, in 2001.
After graduating from law school, Mulkey began her legal career as a judicial law clerk to the Hon. Eric M. Johnson of the Montgomery County Circuit Court in Maryland.
Her memberships have included the Child Support Guideline Commission and the District of Columbia Superior Court Committee on Pretrial Mental Examination and Urgent Care Clinic. She has also been involved with the Women’s Bar Association of the District of Columbia and the Judicial Council of the Hispanic Bar Association, and she has served as a mentor at Mentors, Inc.
