Biography

The Hon. Shaun R. Floerke (Ret.) served as a judge for the 6th Judicial District Court of Minnesota. Floerke was appointed to the bench by former Governor Tim Pawlenty in 2004, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Carol M. Person. He retired on January 1, 2021, and became the Chief Executive Officer of the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation.


The 6th Judicial District includes Carlton County, Cook County, Lake County, and St. Louis County.


Prior to his appointment, Floerke was an assistant county attorney for the Criminal Division of the St. Louis County Attorney’s Office, a position to which he was named in 1997. Before that, he spent time as an associate at Fryberger, Buchanan, Smith & Frederick in Duluth (1996 to 1997).


Floerke earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1988. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Minnesota Law School in 1992.


After graduating from law school, Floerke began his legal career as an attorney at Ruth, Schreiner, Long & Floerke in Owatonna. During his tenure there, he supplemented his practice with service as an assistant county attorney for the Steele County Attorney’s Office.


His memberships have included the 11th District Bar Association, the Minnesota State Bar Association, and the Minnesota County Attorneys Association.


Born in Madison, Wisconsin, Floerke was raised in Platteville, Wisconsin. He resides in Duluth, Minnesota, alongside his wife, Sara. They have five children and attend Duluth Harvester Church.
