The Hon. Shashi H. Kewalramani is a U.S. Magistrate Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, Eastern Division. He was appointed to the District Court in 2017. He filled the seat vacated by the Hon. David T. Bristow.
Judge Kewalramani graduated with his B.S. in aerospace engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1993. He went on to earn his J.D. from Baylor University School of Law in 1996.
Kewalramani began his legal career as a clerk to the Hon. Richard A. Schnell, former Chief Justice of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. After completing his clerkship, he became a senior associate practicing intellectual property and antitrust litigation at the law firm of Arnold, White, and Durkee/Howrey in 1997.
Then, in 2003, after relocating to California, Kewalramani left private practice to become an assistant U.S. Attorney with the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of California, where he was assigned to the Computer Hacking and Intellectual Property Unit. He then transferred to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Central District in 2008.
In 2011, Kewalramani left the public sector to become a principal at Lee, Jorgensen, Pyle, and Kewalramani, where he practiced patent litigation, white-collar defense, internal investigations, and crisis management. After four years there, he became a shareholder at SHK Legal, PC in 2015 and would remain in that capacity until his appointment to the District Court in 2017.
His memberships have included serving as a board member of the Inland Empire Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, the Orange County Constitutional Rights Foundation, and the Orange County Bar Association Charitable Fund.
Kewalramani has also served as a coach of the Canyon High School Mock Trial Team.
