Biography

The Hon. Sarah D. Morrison is a judge for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. She was nominated to the bench by President Donald Trump on January 23, 2019, filling a seat vacated by the Hon. Gregory L. Frost. The United States Senate confirmed her appointment on June 11, 2019.


Morrison was named Chief U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of Ohio in 2024.


Prior to her nomination, she was the administrator and chief executive officer of the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation since 2016. Morrison first joined the office as general counsel and as the chief ethics officer in 2012. Before that, she worked for fourteen years in private practice as a partner at Chester, Willcox & Saxbe, LLP, in Columbus (1998 to 2012), where her practice focused on civil litigation with an emphasis on the areas of complex litigation, employment law, and business divorces.


Morrison received a bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University in 1992. She then completed a J.D. at Capital University Law School in 1997. While a law student, she was an associate editor of the Capital University Law Review and graduated Order of the Curia.


After graduating from law school, Morrison began her legal career as a law clerk to the Hon. John D. Holschuh with the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio (1997 to 1988) before transitioning into the private sector in 1998.


She was born in Lufkin, Texas.
